PLASTIC

Plastic; called monomer, formed by carbon (C), hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), nitrogen (N) and other organic or inorganic elements; It is the name given to the materials obtained by breaking the bond in the simple molecular groups and transforming them into a long and chained structure called polymer.

For example; Ethylene is a monomer. Polyethylene formed from this monomer is a polymer. It is one of the most used plastics.

As it can be understood from the definition, plastics are not found ready in nature, they are obtained by human intervention to the elements in nature. It is obtained by reacting monomers using a catalyst under a certain temperature and pressure. When plastic is first produced, it can be in powder, resin or granular form. In general, plastics are obtained from the materials left over from the processing of crude oil used in oil refineries. According to researches, only 4% of the oil on earth is used for plastic production.

Commonly used plastic types
Polyethylene (Polyethylene) (PE): It has a wide usage area.
Polypropylene (Polypropylene) (PP): It is one of the widely used plastics. Automobile sub-industry, garden furniture, etc. used in places.
Polystyrene (Polystyrene) (PS): Packaging, plastic parts of electronics and white goods, etc. There are areas of use.
Polyethylene terephthalate (Polyethylene terephthalate) (PETE): The name of the pet bottle comes from this material.
Polyamide (Polyamide) (PA) (Nylon): Fiber, toothbrush bristles, fishing line etc. There are areas of use.
Polyester (Polyester): It is widely used in textile.
Polyvinyl chloride (Polyvinyl chloride) (PVC): Pipe, profile etc. used in the manufacture.
Polycarbonate (Polycarbonate) (PC): CD, glasses etc. used in the manufacture. It has the feature of not transmitting the flame and extinguishing itself.
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) (ABS): It is widely used in the plastic parts of electronic devices.
Polyvinylidene chloride (Polyvinylidene chloride) (PVDC) (Saran): It is used in food packaging.
